Stephen Jones Provides Update on Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Contract Talks
Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones recently shed light on the status of contract discussions with star linebacker Micah Parsons, confirming that extension talks have yet to begin.
This news follows the recent extension of quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract, which Jones had hinted was close to completion just days before it became official.
During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones clarified that a contract extension for Parsons is not currently being negotiated. As reported by The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Jones explained that Parsons has opted to focus on his performance this season before considering any contract negotiations. J
ones noted, “Micah made a conscientious decision that he thinks he can put together an even better year. I think his play speaks louder than words.”
Jones expressed confidence in Parsons’ potential, particularly under the leadership of new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, and hinted that discussions may take place after the season. “I think he expects to have a great year under (DC Mike Zimmer), and then probably feel comfortable to talk about it then,” Jones added.
Acknowledging that every player’s approach to contract negotiations is different, Jones said, “Opportunities come, and when they are, and the player feels good about something, we’ll certainly move to do something. At the same time, sometimes players just aren’t ready yet.
Parsons, now in his fourth NFL season, showcased his impact in the Cowboys’ recent 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns, where he recorded four tackles and a sack. His strong start is a testament to his determination to elevate his game this season.
I don’t think there’s a single person in the world gappier about this deal than me lol. Permanent purgatory for the Cowgirls giving 240 million to a good but not great qb who you know doesn’t have what it takes in big games.

In addition, Cowboys owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones spoke highly of Parsons in an interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, reflecting on the linebacker’s selection as the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
“Micah Parsons is probably the best athlete that I’ve ever been around,” Jerry Jones remarked, emphasizing Parsons’ exceptional talent and importance to the organization.
Jones expressed pride in drafting Parsons, praising his versatility and character. “He’s so unique, he’s multifaceted… He is very special and he’s one of my picks,” Jerry Jones said. He humorously added that although others, including Stephen Jones and Will McClay, have made notable draft choices, Parsons stands out as his personal favorite.
As the Cowboys advance through the season, both Stephen and Jerry Jones remain optimistic about Parsons’ continued growth and potential for greatness. While contract negotiations are on hold, the Cowboys appear willing to wait until Parsons feels ready to engage in discussions about his future with the team.
