Steelers Re-Sign Former Safety Terrell Edmunds from Jaguars Practice Squad
The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed safety Terrell Edmunds, pulling him from the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad, according to a source who spoke with TribLive on Monday.
Edmunds, originally a first-round pick by the Steelers in the 2018 NFL Draft, spent five seasons as their starting strong safety. Known for his durability, he missed only three of the Steelers’ 84 games (including playoffs) during that time, starting in all but three of the 81 games he played.
Last season, Edmunds signed with the Philadelphia Eagles but was traded to the Tennessee Titans in October. In May, he joined the Jaguars, but after training camp, he didn’t make the final 53-man roster and was placed on their practice squad. Despite this, Edmunds was promoted for Jacksonville’s season opener against the Miami Dolphins, playing six defensive snaps.

The Steelers’ current safety group includes All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick, veteran Damontae Kazee, and newcomer DeShon Elliott, with Miles Killebrew primarily playing on special teams. Jalen Elliott, the team’s fifth safety, was inactive during their recent win over the Atlanta Falcons, and his release could make room for Edmunds’ return.
At 27, Edmunds brings considerable experience back to Pittsburgh, with 96 regular-season games to his name. Over his career, he’s tallied six interceptions, 28 passes defended, 7.5 sacks, and 458 tackles, including 310 solo tackles and 17 tackles for loss. Edmunds’ strength as a run-stopping safety adds depth to the Steelers’ defense as he rejoins the team.
