Trent Williams: Injuries can be a “creative blessing” by creating opportunities for others

The 49ers are dealing with a long list of injuries, and there’s no denying that’s where the team wants to head heading into their Week 3 matchup with the Rams. However, experienced team members believe that managing absenteeism can benefit the team in the long run. Left tackle Trent Williams cited Brock Purdy’s elevation to the starting lineup, saying it could be a “blessing in disguise” as players are forced into the lineup to show they belong. “He’s just the next guy,” Williams said, via 49ersWebzone.com .

“It’s a shame, those guys are the best in the world, but who cares about us? So this is the next league of players. These are some people we’d like to see a lot of action from. “We didn’t want it to happen after somebody got hurt, but sometimes there’s an opportunity,” he said.

In addition to Purdy, Williams can point to Jordan Mason as an example of what he’s talking about. The running back has 247 yards and two touchdowns in two games in place of Christian McCaffrey, and the 49ers should see similar production from another addition in the coming weeks.
