Hailie Deegan has spoken candidly about the challenges drivers face in pursuing a racing career, no matter how talented they are. In a discussion on Kenny Wallace’s YouTube series, The Kenny Interview, Deegan addressed the financial issues that determine the path of many racing careers. Her fiance, Chase Cabre, who is also a runner, has had significant financial difficulties. He explained:”He’s one of the most talented drivers I’ve ever seen who didn’t have a chance before ARCA,” Deegan said of Cabret. “And that’s what racing is all about. That’s it. “You have to have money, even if people don’t want to admit it or pretend they don’t. It doesn’t matter if it’s donations or family money. That’s why he couldn’t go on.”
He continued:“And from a marketing perspective, it’s good for me to be able to have that family number. Because that’s a big deal to me. “I am a person who works with donations. If my sponsor gets fired, I’m done. great.””Okay, what do we do now?” I thought. Why are we working now? Let’s set a goal. What does it look like from a budget perspective and what does it look like from a sponsorship budget perspective? How do I navigate through the different options? “Weigh the pros and cons of everything. Then I thought, “I think I’ve become good friends with some people in the IndyCar scene and people I’ve raced with before in IndyCar.”
“I talked to some people I grew up with karting, asked questions and put it to the test. I thought, ‘Let’s go to IndyCar in Iowa.’ “Let’s check,” he said. ‘Why not?’ To find out what it is, we began to evaluate myself as a driver. For example, I began to assess my strengths and weaknesses and my best leadership skills. “I like things that are tight. I like places where the slopes are wide open. I like chains. Continuing from last year, my best result was on the road course and my best overall result. Best qualifications etc. In addition, we did a good job with IMSA. So I thought, “Oh, maybe we should take a good look at this road.”
