Iroco, a regular star of Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero, will avoid the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday due to an appearance at Carlisle the following afternoon.
Six-year-old JP McManus, who was qualified over hurdles a few seasons ago, had made an impressive start to his chasing career when he suffered a setback last November which was initially expected to put him out for the rest of the season.
However, he returned in the spring and topped that performance by finishing fifth in the Turners’ Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and second at Aintree.
The Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero-trained Iroko is set to return this weekend, with the Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase looking a more favorable option than Saturday’s opportunity in West Yorkshire.
“We’re hoping to get to Carlisle,” Greenall said.
“He’s doing well, he can’t be seen at home so it’s hard to keep an eye on him all the time, but he’s working hard and absorbing it well. “He will improve his running ability, I think there will be another chase at Haydock on Betfair Chase day.
