The New Orleans Saints are taking big steps forward after two straight losses. According to multiple reports, the team fired coach Dennis Allen after a seven-game losing streak gave the team a 2-7 start.
Allen is the second NFL coach to be fired this offseason, after the New York Jets fired Robert Saleh last October. Allen, in his third year with the Saints, compiled an 18-25 record with the organization. He has a career record of 26-53 after leading the Oakland Raiders from 2012-14.
Allen took over the Saints in 2022 following the departure of longtime coach Sean Payton. Although the team missed the playoffs in each of its first two seasons, the front office overcame salary cap issues to retain key veterans and most of the roster.
Under new offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak, New Orleans, which scored 91 points after taking a 2-0 lead, shook off a lingering skid. The Saints lost 23-22 to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and lost 47-10 to New Orleans earlier in the season.
