After a long day of celebrating the Melbourne Cup, thousands of competitors have few problems.
More than 90,000 people gathered at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday for the race that will stop a nation.
The thousands of competitors taking part in the Knight’s Choice were in high spirits and the drinks were flowing.
Starting at 8.30am, participants will pass through the gates of the famous racecourse dressed to the 9s.
As the last race of the day finished just after 5.15pm, thousands of participants began to head home or into town to celebrate the final hours of the holiday.
Many contestants rocked in high heels, while others decided to ditch the shoes and go barefoot.
Robbie Dolan, a jockey from Queensland, Ireland, who was known as a singer on the Australian reality show ‘The Voice’, won Knight’s Choice, beating Warp Speed.
Okita Soushi and Zardozi qualified for the finals but placed 3rd and 4th respectively.
“I’m going to sing for the rest of my life,” Dolan said after the race.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous.” I can’t believe it. I don’t know what to say.
“I’ve been watching the Melbourne Cup for the last 40 years. “I thought I’d give him a ride and he could run home and run a fast section on a good track and hopefully prove everybody wrong,” Dolan continued.
“I can’t put it into words, this is the greatest race in the world. “Here’s my family, my partner Christine, our baby Maisy and my dad flew in from Ireland and now I’m crying .
“Knight’s selection was favorite to win the Melbourne Cup since Michelle Payne rode Prince of Penzance to a 100-1 victory in 2015.
Pre-race favorites Vauban and Buckaroo settled at the back of the field and ran in a straight line, but they disappeared late.
Flemington wasn’t the only scene of action on and off the track on Tuesday.
North of the border, thousands of attendees flocked to Sydney’s Royal Randwick for the Big Dance.
Others celebrated in venues around the city and the evening party continued in King’s Cross Square.
Some of them were seen enjoying a party at a bar in the entertainment area, while others were seen wandering around their homes.
Onlookers in Australia were surprised by Knight’s Choice’s win, but trainer John Simons said he was not surprised. “We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t believe we could do this,” he said.
Robbie’s visit was really great. I took a chance and passed the pack. I was worried. It was a great trip, although it was much further than we expected. It is truly a sensation.
It is truly a sensation. “Here you work with the horses 24/7 and you know where you stand. “I would have been disappointed if I didn’t get good results,” he said.
“I would be happy to finish in the top five in a race like this to win would be a dream come true,” said Simons. Co-trainer Sheila Laxon trained Ephiral to Melbourne Cup glory in 2001 and said Dolan is now an honorary Australian.
“I love playing for the Australians. The Australian horse did and Robbie is very happy to be Australian now and to win the Cup. “This is the People’s Cup and that’s it,” he said.
