On Tuesday morning, NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick shocked the racing world with a playoff bid.
After watching the races at Martinsville last weekend, Harvick thought he knew a good system to get the top four drivers into the finals.
But first, let’s describe what happened:
Defending champion Ryan Blaney won the race to advance to Championship 4, joining round eight winners Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick. Last place went to William Byron after a penalty was served to Christopher Bell for bringing down Ross Chastain.
After watching the race, Harvick thinks he has a solution.
“This format is very interesting,” Harvick said. “[But] there are no top four cars in the Championship 4.
Tyler Reddick now has a regular season champion, but Kyle Larson was not a regular season champion when it came to Charlotte. Here’s what I think: What if we win the regular season championship and he automatically goes to the semifinals? “We will advance to the Championship Four, rewarding a spot to the regular season champion.”
“Then we figure out second place, which puts us in the round of 16, and third place is 12th in the championship. Fourth, we will advance to the 1/8 finals. “We are competing for second, third and fourth place because not only do we have to compete for at least first place, but we also have to compete for championship points and an automatic place in each stage of the play-offs.”
Should NASCAR change the playoff format next season?
