The Detroit Lions have announced the signing of wide receiver Ronnie Bell to a futures contract.
Futures contracts serve as invitations to training camp, providing players with the chance to compete for a roster spot during the offseason, including the spring and summer sessions.
Bell, now 24, was a standout during his four years at Michigan before being selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
He initially signed a four-year, $3,917,784 rookie contract that included a $77,784 signing bonus. However, the 49ers released him in November of his second season, later re-signing him to their practice squad.
During the 2024 season, Bell played in nine games for San Francisco, recording two receptions on six targets for a total of 22 yards. The Lions will now give him an opportunity to further his career and compete for a spot on their active roster.
