After a year away from racing, trainer Bob Baffert is getting the unbeaten Nysos ready for his comeback. With a four-furlong move in 48.8 seconds on Thursday at Santa Anita, Nysos, who hasn’t been raced since February 3 and hasn’t been worked since October 10, made a comeback to the worktab. In a text message to Horse Racing Nation, Baffert stated that he has no race in mind for the debut of the 4-year-old horse owned by Baoma Corp. Baffert stated Thursday afternoon that “the goal is to get him back to the races when he is ready.”
Since winning the Grade 3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes around this time last year, Nysos has not participated in any races. By a total of 26 3/4 lengths, that victory extended the Nyquist colt’s winning streak to three. After the Lewis, he worked twice in February before taking a vacation and coming back to run four furlongs at Santa Anita on October 10 in 47.6 seconds. It was his first job since Thursday. Nysos was being aimed for the Preakness Stakes and was the futures-book favorite for that event before to being sidelined because Baffert was unable to participate in the Kentucky Derby last year. Something like the Alysheba Stakes (G2) during Derby week might be in play given that Baffert is able to run his horses at tracks controlled by Churchill Downs Inc. In relation to the Lewis Stakes,, Baffert confirmed that all three of his entrants in this year’s edition, champion Citizen Bull, Madaket Road and Rodriguez, will start.
