Mackenzie Holmes’ signing with the Seattle Storm is an exciting addition that could bolster their frontcourt depth. After missing the 2024 season due to knee surgery, Holmes is finally healthy and ready to make an impact. Her dominance at Indiana, where she set multiple program records, demonstrates her ability to score efficiently and contribute defensively.

Seattle’s decision to bring her in, despite her injury history, suggests confidence in her ability to transition to the WNBA. Holmes’ post play and high field-goal percentage make her a valuable asset, especially in a league where efficient inside scoring is crucial. However, adjusting to the speed and physicality of the WNBA after a year off will be a challenge.

The Storm, who finished third in the Western Conference last season, are looking to build on their success. Pairing Holmes with a veteran like Erica Wheeler, a solid floor leader with experience across multiple teams, could provide the team with a nice balance of youth and experience. With Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike leading the way, Holmes has an opportunity to develop alongside some of the league’s best.

If Holmes can stay healthy and regain her college form, she could be a valuable contributor off the bench and eventually develop into a key rotation player. The 2025 season will be an important proving ground for her at the professional level.
