Star Power Fading? NASCAR Loses Its Second Celebrity Owner in a Year

Pitbull’s tenure as a part-owner of Trackhouse Racing, which started when Justin Marks hired him as a partner prior to the team’s debut season in 2021, looked to be coming to an end during the second half of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. Noting that he and the Grammy Award-winning musician had “big plans” for the squad for the 2025 season and beyond, Marks shot down the claim and even criticized the media for propagating it. However, it was reported a few days prior to the start of the 2025 season that Pitbull would be quitting the club as a partner with immediate effect, ending his four-year tenure as a Cup Series team owner and confirming the supposedly bogus rumor.

However, Pitbull is not the only well-known owner to have left the NASCAR Cup Series in the past 12 months. The Money Team Racing, co-owned by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., revealed a rebranding prior to their season debut in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway last year. Since Mayweather was no longer involved with the organization, it made no sense to call the team after his The Money organization brand, hence the rebranding occurred as a result of a change in ownership. The squad is currently called squad AmeriVet after AmeriVet Securities, a service-disabled veteran-owned broker-dealer financial services company, became a partial owner.

Prior to Mayweather’s departure, Team AmeriVet only participated in four races in 2022 and two in 2023, never pursuing full-time competition. As Team AmeriVet, they ultimately participated in just two races in 2024. However, when it comes to Cup Series ownership, the current pop culture craze seems to be waning. The good news is that, despite 23XI Racing’s antitrust action against NASCAR over the new charter deal, co-owner and ardent NASCAR fan Michael Jordan seems to be with it for the long run. With three full-time competitors, Trackhouse Racing is presently in its inaugural season as a team.

After the 2021 season, they increased their number of cars from one to two by purchasing the Chip Ganassi Racing assets. Since then, they have operated two full-time entries: one for Daniel Suarez, their initial driver, and another for Ross Chastain, a former driver for Chip Ganassi Racing. Shane van Gisbergen, a rookie, is driving the third full-time entry. With the exception of the preseason Cook Out Clash exhibiton race at Bowman Gray Stadium, where they entered the No. 50 Chevrolet for Burt Myers, Team AmeriVet has not yet been listed as an entry for the 2025 season. He failed to earn a spot in the main event.

As the season goes on, they are anticipated to make an appearance at a few different venues, but only in races when there are fewer than 40 cars on the entry list, preventing them from running the risk of not qualifying.
