The No. 71 Spire Motorsports team will compete in the upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series/Craftsman Truck Series race weekend on Michael McDowell’s Chevrolet this weekend at Martinsville Speedway as NASCAR continues to speed toward its first NASCAR National Series events at Rockingham Speedway, which will occur in April, since the 2013 season. Even though McDowell has never participated in an official race around the one-mile circuit in North Carolina, he has pleasant recollections of Rockingham Speedway from his early NASCAR Cup Series days. As stated in a team news release, “Rockingham is a historic and iconic racetrack,” McDowell commented. I conducted extensive testing there, despite the fact that I haven’t raced at there.
A lot of testing was done in 2008 when you were a rookie in the Cup Series, and Rockingham was one of those locations. I have a lot of laps there, but they are not racing laps. A fantastic racetrack that is both iconic and historic, Rockingham demonstrates NASCAR’s ongoing efforts to return to its origins. The renowned circuit will host a triple-header racing weekend on April 18–19, which is officially promoted by circuit Enterprises. When a race vehicle from the NASCAR Cup Series features the Rockingham Speedway promotion, the promoter is thrilled. Bob Sargent, president of Track Enterprises, stated, “Track Enterprises is excited to collaborate with Spire Motorsports and Michael McDowell to highlight NASCAR’s return to Rockingham Speedway.”
“Martinsville is only a few of hours’ drive from Rockingham, and both tracks have a very strong history with NASCAR. Taking advantage of a NASCAR Cup Series race so close to Rockingham seemed like a terrific idea to us. We want fans to know that it will be a thrilling racing weekend, that tickets are still available, although they are selling quickly, and that we anticipate a fantastic turnout on both days.” In addition to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday, April 18, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series North Carolina Education Lottery 250 on Saturday, April 19, the circuit will host a 125-lap ARCA Menards Series East race before Saturday’s Xfinity Series event.
Tickets for the NASCAR Race Weekend at Rockingham Speedway are available in person at Rockingham City Hall or online at racetherock.com. For the race weekend, the track is selling both single-day and weekend ticket packages.
