Since he began competing in the Cup Series in 2004, Busch has witnessed several changes in the sport, notably the evolution of on-track racing. As it was following Carson Hocevar’s antics in the Cup Series at Atlanta in February, dirty driving is once again at the forefront of discourse following last weekend’s stunning conclusion to the Xfinity Series race at Martinsville. When Busch appeared on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour last month, he talked about the crash rather than win mentality and the same problem.
Kyle Busch on the ‘unfixable’ problem in NASCAR Busch makes the argument that there is no turning back from the times when seasoned drivers would mentor new, up-and-coming drivers, citing the significant changes that have occurred since then. During the Happy Hour, Busch clarified, “That was the Mark Martin era, the Jeff Gordon era, the Tony Stewart era, you were there, the Harvick era.” People frequently ask me, ‘Why don’t you take these youngsters under your wing and teach them and inform them?’ That was a different time period than the one we live in now. “There is no fixing what we’ve got going right now with everybody running over everybody,” I think, adding that we’re in a totally new period. They’d much sooner crash than win a race, I don’t get it.”
