On lap five of the Goodyear 400 at Darlington, Kyle Larson causes his car to completely break down

After only five circuits, one of today’s favorites is all but eliminated from the race. At Darlington, Kyle Larson’s car was totaled. Terry Labonte’s stunning NASCAR throwback won’t be able to reach Victory Lane today. This is not how Kyle Larson typically behaves. Even though we’ve seen him push the limits and overdrive his car, this doesn’t usually happen this early in the race. Larson simply loses his car after watching the replay. After being next to Joey Logano, he was spinning out. However, the No. 5 team dragged the car to the garage, ending his hopes of a salvageable day.

After exiting Turn 2, Larson positioned his left-side tires beneath the hash markers. He raced with Logano, but that was too much for his car.
