Kyren Lacy, a wide receiver from LSU, tragically died by suicide in Houston on Saturday following a police chase, according to official reports.

On Sunday night, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department released a report stating that Lacy was found deceased after a police pursuit ended in a crash. Authorities discovered that he had apparently taken his own life using a handgun located at the scene.

TMZ reported that the incident began around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday when police responded to a weapons disturbance call. A woman, claiming to be a relative of Lacy, told officers that after a heated argument, Lacy allegedly fired a gun into the ground before leaving.

Law enforcement later identified his vehicle and attempted a stop, but Lacy fled, initiating a chase that ended with a crash and his apparent suicide.

The incident occurred just two weeks before the NFL Draft, where Lacy was expected to be a strong wide receiver candidate. However, his professional path had already been impacted by a serious legal matter stemming from an earlier fatal crash.

In December, Lacy surrendered to police after being wanted in connection to a crash that occurred in Gray, Louisiana. He faced charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and reckless driving. The crash reportedly claimed the life of a 78-year-old man, and Lacy was accused of fleeing the scene.

A grand jury was scheduled to begin reviewing evidence related to Lacy’s case on Monday, the day after his reported death.

During his final season at LSU, Lacy recorded 56 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. Over his last two seasons, he totaled 16 touchdown catches and concluded his collegiate career with 26 touchdowns overall.
