A woman has died and three people have been taken to hospital after horses collided with each other on a main road. Police were called to a collision between a car and a van on the A737 in Homewood, Renfrewshire, at around 3.10am on Monday. Around the same time, police received reports of six horses loose on the road and four horses killed in car accidents. Police and paramedics responded and a 59-year-old woman in the Mercedes A-Class died at the scene. The driver, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and the 33-year-old passenger was taken to Paisley Royal Alexandra Hospital.
The 59-year-old man driving the MAN Box van was also taken to Paisley Hospital where both men were assessed. Both horses were taken to safety. The road was closed for investigation and reopened at 2pm. Police Scotland Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “We are supporting the family of the woman who died as we continue to investigate the full circumstances of the accident.” “I would appeal to anyone traveling on the A737 on Monday morning who witnessed the accident or saw a horse running on the road to get in touch. “Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 0291 of September 23.”
