Ross Chastain wins the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Chastain earned his first win of the 2024 NASCAR Cup season and fifth career win. Chastain had to hold off a heavily charged William Byron on the final lap. Byron tried to pass Chastain in the final turn, but didn’t have enough momentum to make the move. “It’s a big deal,” Chastain told NBC Sports’ Marty Snyder. “This is a cup competition. Justin Marks trusted Trackhouse Racing with Pitbull to do such things. … There were times when I was not feeling well after training and selection. He seemed to be stronger here. But our Kuboda Chevy handled better because the tires were softer and the steering was great.”
Byron’s runner-up finish was his third of the season, ninth top-5 finish and 15th top-10 finish. The NASCAR Cup Series playoff driver struggled throughout the race.
