Louisiana Downs is looking for a new racing secretary as Crawford prepares for retirement.

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – If you are looking for a job in the horse racing industry, Louisiana Downs is in a great location.Louisiana Downs has announced the resignation of Matt Crawford, director of racing and racing. “I am stepping down from the racing office, which has been part of my life for 30 years as a race official, race secretary and race director,” Crawford said. “After traveling for almost 30 years, I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and my wife. Thank you to Kevin Preston for the opportunity to present the races at Louisiana Downs for three years. He has big goals to make this process a success.”

A native of Texas, Crawford began his horse racing career as an assistant trainer. A role that allows a deep understanding of the story. He has held a variety of roles at racetracks across the country, including Oaklawn Park, Lone Star Park, Canterbury Park, Sam Houston, Ruidoso Downs, Zea Park and Hialeah Park. In July 2022, he took over as racing secretary at Louisiana Downs. “I would like to thank Matt for his time at Louisiana Downs,” said owner Kevin Preston. “We’ve seen a lot of great things happen on the field during his tenure, and while Matt is stepping back, he’ll still have a small role to play going forward.”Crawford will continue to assist Louisiana Downs through Volume 1 of the Quarter Horse Meeting, which begins on January 9, 2025.

The search for a new racing secretary is underway.
