Flat racing is popular in Great Britain and Ireland today, with five meetings taking place in autumn afternoons and evenings. First up is Nottingham (1.45-4.50) before moving on to Navan (1.51-5.27). The two jumps are at Sedgefield (1.58-4.28) and Ludlow (2.05-5.05). The day ends with an all-weather offer at Kempton (April 12-August 15). One of Wednesday’s favorite horses is County Durham’s Rebecca Menzies. He hopes to get over that hurdle and make his first two starts in the spring.

Slippers: Kingston Narcissus (Sedgefield, 1.58) @ SP BetMGMNext Best: One Fer Mamma (Sedgefield, 2.28) @ SP (with BetMGM) Other: Bellbirds (Sedgefield, 2.58) @ SP BetMGM Exact odds may change at time of publication.

Horse Racing Tips: Sedgefield, 1.58

KINGSTON NARCISSUS is very attractive in this Menzies 2m 1f maiden hurdle with Ross Chapman in the saddle.

He trains just three miles from the track and has gone 5-25 (20%) in both codes over the past two weeks. These include Lehian over hurdles at Uttoxeter on Sunday and Churchill’s win at Hexham on Friday. Chapman went 20-134 (15%, 7lb) aboard Churchill and Menzies went 30-238 (13%) with his pilot at Sedgefield. In particular, the weather looks unsettled ahead of this meeting and the ground is likely to get soft. The choice was made on an apartment in France, which cost 30,000 euros last November. He has shown reasonable power in 15 starts and has finished in the top three five times, including on soft ground. The sanctioned five-year-old gelding won twice over hurdles at Menzies in May, finished fifth over course and distance in good conditions and achieved a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 90 when fourth in trials . At Cartmel.

Hurdles should continue to improve as he is more acclimated to the environment after a four-month break and would ideally return to this course in potentially tougher conditions. Pick: Kingston Narcissus @ SP BetMGM ownsHorse

Racing Tips: Sedgefield, 2.28

ONE FER MAMMA is a more speculative proposition in the extended 3m 2f handicap chase. But if it shines again for the first time in 201 days, and that prospect only gets better the more it rains, he will certainly be one to be treated well. This son of Dylan Thomas has won three times in six starts on soft ground and won the top 20lb hard ground hurdles this trip. His only chase win came in December 2021 when he landed a top limit of 18lb over 3m on heavy ground at Uttoxett.

Both firsts were for his former trainer Matt Sheppard but he ran well over long distances for current owner and trainer Paula Smith at Hexham in March and will not be able to attack from the distance. Horse

Racing Tips: Sedgefield, 2.58

BELLBIRD is worthy of backing in this 2m 4ft handicap with Donald McCain in the saddle alongside Brian Hughes. The trainer has taken 3-22 in the last 14 days, including a hurdle success at Hexham on Friday, and is 161-774 (21%) with his rider across the course. When riding in the yard, riders are 404-1961 (21%). Hughes went well in qualifying and saddled up with a second place at Bangor despite a slightly poor performance after a short break on good ground last month. A step back at this distance on the test surface will suit him and he is expected to perform a point better.
