Nearly three hours after Kyle Larson’s victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Cup Playoffs took a dramatic turn as Roval tried to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals. Alex Bowman, who finished 18th and won Stage 2, took the top spot. Chevrolet no. 48 failed post-race inspection and was disqualified. Bowman fell to last place, gaining one point for 38th. As a result of the violation, he lost 28 points, dropping his points from 6th to 9th.
In the drivers’ standings, Joey Logano regained his championship lead, moving from 9th to 8th with three laps to go. In the drivers’ standings, Bowman’s ’48 No. Chevy fell to ninth, and Tyler Reddick’s No. 45 Toyota dropped to 8th and last place in the 8th round.
