NASCAR teams switch drivers (again) for the Martinsville race

This year, five drivers will be selected, including full-time Kaulig Racing Xfinity Series driver A.J. Allmendinger and Shane van Gisbergen lead with 12 and 10 starts.

Josh Williams, Ty Dillon and Derek Kraus also made multiple starts, but Allmendinger and van Gisbergen had to drive in 10 of the last 11 events.

Kaulig Racing is changing drivers again

With Van Gisbergen competing in the first two races of the playoffs (and the last two races of the regular season before that), the driver of the #16 Chevrolet has not been consistent from race to race and that trend is to be expected. It continues for the seventh consecutive weekend. Allmendinger drove at Homestead-Miami Speedway last Sunday afternoon after Van Gisbergen drove the car last Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Now, van Gisbergen will return to action Sunday afternoon in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Williams made his second of two starts this season at Martinsville in April.

The team also hopes Krauss, who has not raced since the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in June, will run the No. 1 at Phoenix Raceway next weekend. He confirmed that he will finish the season behind the wheel of a Chevrolet 16. This weekend marks the 8th consecutive week of line-up changes.

Krauss, who has driven five races this season for Kaulig Racing, also drove at Phoenix in March. Next year, Kaulig Racing will also have two full-time drivers. The team has yet to confirm a driver for next weekend’s Phoenix season finale. The Xfinity 500 will be televised live on NBC from Martinsville Speedway beginning at 2 p.m.
