One NFL coach is skeptical that Washington Chiefs quarterback Jayden Daniels can handle his current workload much longer. “We’ll see if it stays consistent over the years,” Athletic coach Mike Sando said. The Chiefs returned Daniels for a touchdown. Through the first five games, he had 57 carries for 300 yards and four touchdowns, compared to 164 yards on 28 carries over the last five games. Opponents seem to be adjusting to the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, who allowed just five points in Sunday’s 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Daniels’ health has been the focus of attention ahead of Washington’s Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears. That’s because he missed the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers with a rib injury. Although he missed a few practices before the game against Chicago, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that “all signs point to him playing.” Schefter also announced that he plans to warm up the LSU product before the game and see how he feels, with team officials saying the quarterback is a “tough guy.”Daniels not only played in the game, but completed a Hail Mary in the final game to secure the dramatic victory.
It was the start of a very good rookie season for the signal caller, who completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 2,147 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Chiefs fans are well aware of the added risk of injury that comes with double jeopardy in the NFL. They still remember the torn ACL and LCL from the 2012 season that derailed Robert Griffin III’s career. Managing Daniels’ workload now and in the future is very important to Washington.
