According to the team’s official transaction wire for December 9, the Packers have signed former New England Patriots guard Michael Jordan to their practice squad. In a corresponding move, they released rookie offensive tackle Spencer Rolland.
Jordan, a 2019 fourth-round draft pick, started 11 games at left guard for the Patriots this season. However, after struggling in the role, the Patriots demoted him to the practice squad in late November before eventually cutting him. Pro Football Focus graded Jordan as one of the six worst run-blocking guards in the league (119th out of 125), citing three sacks and 23 pressures allowed on 441 pass-blocking snaps.
Despite his struggles, the 26-year-old brings experience, with 40 career starts and 67 games played as an interior lineman. His veteran presence could prove valuable as the Packers push for the playoffs over the final stretch of the regular season.
Jordan is the second guard the Packers have signed to their 16-man practice squad in the last two weeks, following the addition of Marquis Hayes on November 30.
The Packers (9-4) are set to face the Seattle Seahawks (8-5) in Week 15’s Sunday Night Football matchup on December 15, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
Jordan Morgan Eligible for Week 15 Return
While adding depth to the practice squad, the Packers could get a more significant boost to their offensive line in Week 15 with the potential return of rookie guard Jordan Morgan.
Morgan, the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is eligible to return from injured reserve this week and could practice as early as December 11 if cleared. He has missed seven of the Packers’ first 13 games due to a shoulder injury, which initially sidelined him for three games before he re-aggravated it and landed on injured reserve on November 16.
If deemed healthy, Morgan would offer the Packers a more reliable option for their offensive line than the practice-squad additions.
Luke Musgrave Also Eligible to Return
In addition to Morgan, the Packers could also activate tight end Luke Musgrave in Week 15. The team’s 2023 second-round pick (No. 42 overall) has been on injured reserve since October 10 with an ankle injury and hasn’t played since Week 4’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings on September 29.
Given the time Musgrave has missed, the Packers may choose to utilize his 21-day activation window to ease him back into game shape.
Injury Updates from Matt LaFleur
While reinforcements could be on the way, injuries continue to impact the Packers’ active roster. Head coach Matt LaFleur provided updates following the team’s Week 14 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Rookie safety Javon Bullard is considered “week-to-week” after suffering an ankle injury against Detroit. Fellow rookie safety Evan Williams and wide receiver Romeo Doubs remain in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Williams sustained his concussion in Week 14, while Doubs has been sidelined for two games and is entering his third week in the protocol. Doubs practiced in a limited capacity ahead of Week 14 but was ruled out before the game.
The Packers are expected to provide more information on their injured players with the release of their first Week 15 injury report after practice on December 11.
