The Green Bay Packers had considered pursuing a top-tier pass rusher during the 2025 NFL offseason, but they can now safely rule out one major target — Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett.
According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, Browns general manager Andrew Berry firmly stated earlier this week that Garrett will not be traded, regardless of any trade offers.
When asked about a hypothetical trade involving Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Berry responded, “Correct,” confirming that he wouldn’t entertain offers even for a package of two first-round picks.
Packers Lose Out on Top Trade Target Myles Garrett
Berry’s definitive stance on Garrett is a blow to the Packers, who are looking to bolster their defensive line for the 2025 season. Despite having four former first-round picks on their line in 2024, the Packers struggled to generate consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. ESPN Analytics ranked Green Bay with the seventh-worst pass-rush win rate (35%), even though they tied for the eighth-most sacks in the league (45).
With significant investments in both Rashan Gary and Kenny Clark, the Packers were hoping to add another standout rusher, and a trade for Garrett could have been a game-changer. Over the past five seasons, Garrett has earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors, racking up 72 sacks, 135 quarterback hits, and 248 total tackles. He led the NFL in pass-rush win rate in 2023 and is once again a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
With Garrett now off the table, the Packers will need to turn to other pass-rushing options to address their needs.
Maxx Crosby Trade Also Unlikely for Packers?
While a trade for Garrett would have been the offseason’s headline deal, Packers fans have also been pushing for a move to acquire Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Crosby, who has been seeking a new contract, had been a subject of trade speculation following changes in the Raiders’ front office and coaching staff.
However, Crosby’s recent comments about new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek indicate that he may not be on the move this offseason. “Just a ton of great energy in the room,” Crosby said on his “The Rush” podcast about Carroll. “It was finally good to talk to Pete. I got to talk to him before he got hired; he was actually here for an interview. I got to run into him and Mark [Davis] and got to chop it up with them, and then today, I got to spend a little more time with him.”
Although Crosby is still negotiating his contract, his positive impressions of the new leadership in Las Vegas suggest the Packers’ hopes of trading for him may also be dashed. This, too, marks another setback for Green Bay in their search for a pass rusher this offseason.
