Earlier this season, Chastain competed in the Xfinity Series for Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports at COTA and Darlington, where he once again irritated some of his rivals. On his way to his P4 finish, he got into an altercation with both Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell, two more Cup Series players, which upset him this time. Dale Jr. said on his podcast, “It’s like Austin Hill,” drawing a comparison between Chastain and another driver who has been charged with aggressive driving. “If he was driving my car, right, dude, I would be all about what he’s doing and how he drives.” When I competed against Chastain in the Xfinity Series, however, I did not like his driving style: “I did not like how he drove around my cars because he could easily lure Justin Allgaier into a damn fist-to-fist battle around Watkins Glen and there we are duking it out for 15th, beating the s**t out of our race car.” However, you say, “Yeah, man, hell yeah, slide ’em,” when he’s in your vehicle.

The driver of the No. 1 Chevy has registered five finishes inside the top 10 in the opening nine races, with his best result having been a P5 at Las Vegas in March.
