In the 34th running of the $1-million American Turf (G1) for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the Matt Winn Turf Course, Collected colt came very close to winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf to cap off his juvenile campaign. He will make his first start since then in the 1 1/16-mile race run by Red Feather Racing and Iron Man Cal, who finished within a neck of winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) last fall at Del Mar. Cal will make his 2025 debut at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Prior to his Breeders’ Cup performance, Iron Man Cal, who was trained by Phil D’Amato, won the Zuma Beach (G3) at Santa Anita. Cal, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame will be ridden by Antonio Fresu from post 10.
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf also produced Qatar Racing’s New Century (GB). Prior to his run for the Breeders’ Cup, New Century won the Summer (G1) at Woodbine and is currently being trained by Brendan Walsh. In his 2025 debut, Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride New Century from post 3.
