The co-owner of 23XI, who is also perhaps the best driver to have never won a Cup Series title, has made it a point to criticize a potential modification to the sport’s All-Star break and provided an explanation for it. Hamlin has been outspoken in his objection to a rule that would make the exhibition race more ridiculous than the Cup Series, but he did win his only All-Star race in 2015 when he held off Kevin Harvick for the victory ten laps from the end during a caution restart. The seasoned racer gave an explanation on his Actions Detrimental podcast as to why teams had rejected plans to permit vehicles with minimal or no restrictions on Next Gen chassis and component alterations. “If you are speaking to me, the race car driver and the fan I’m going to say, damn, I wish we had this,” Hamlin clarified.

This would be wonderful. “You know, the idea of having cars that have different speeds from one other is amazing.” “There might be something that is learned for the short track package that could improve it. Passing will therefore be more common. There are numerous benefits that could result from that. “Everyone wants to go have fun and do all these things, but who is going to pay for it?” he said, referring to the ‘only’ one million dollars that would be awarded to the victor. “As a fan, as a driver, I wish we could do it, but under the parameters that were set, it just wasn’t thought out enough,” he stated. “No team will sign up to it, and it’s not feasible and no team is going to sign up to voluntarily lose millions of dollars.”
