Jake Garcia didn’t have a very noteworthy debut season with ThorSport Racing. Garcia didn’t even consider himself for the playoffs the year his ThorSport teammate Ty Majeski won the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship. When the checkered flag waved at Phoenix, he finished a vast 17th in the standings, and it wasn’t until the 11th race of the year at Charlotte that he recorded his first top-10 finish of the season. However, Garcia has changed from a mid-pack regular to a dark horse contender for the championship after the first seven races in 2025, so things couldn’t be much different. With the exception of finishing 26th at Las Vegas, he hasn’t dropped out this year, and his first top-10 result came in the season’s second event of the top 10 since.
Garcia’s average finish over the last four races is 4.75. During that drive, Garcia led 43 laps and finished in second place for the first time in his career at Rockingham on April 18. “We’re just bringing fast trucks to the racetrack,” Garcia declared following his Rockingham second-place result. “These guys put created beautiful things for me to drive after putting in a ton of work. I can now sprint up front since I have good trucks under me.” “We didn’t have a terrific year last year. I’m not sure if I’ve made any progress as a driver. A bit, perhaps. But it’s refreshing since we’re improving by around 20 spots each week.”
The 20-year-old Monroe, Georgia, driver has emerged as a star and is evidence that even with the greatest teams, promising drivers require time to mature. With seven races left in the season, Garcia is presently 43 points ahead of the playoff cutline and eighth in the Truck Series points standings. With his recent speed, who’s to say he can’t make a statement with a possible run to Phoenix? He’s in a terrific position to point his way into the postseason.
