Luke Shields, the Head Men’s Tennis Coach at Boise State, revealed today that Taiyo Kurata from Hiroshima, Japan, has joined the roster for the 2024-25 season as a transfer from the University of Idaho, where he still has two years of eligibility.

During the recent spring season, Kurata competed at both the No. 1 and 2 singles positions for the Vandals, achieving a 14-12 overall record for the year. He also participated in the top two doubles matches.

In his freshman year in 2023, Kurata, hailing from Hiroshima, Japan, secured All-Big Sky Second Team accolades in doubles and received an honorable mention in singles. He primarily played across the three, four, and five singles spots, finishing with a 12-9 record, contributing to a 22-18 season record. In doubles, he predominantly played on court two, garnering a 10-6 record and concluding with a 24-13 overall mark.

Kurata played a significant role in guiding Idaho to clinch the 2023 Big Sky Conference Tournament Championship and secure a spot in the NCAA Championship.
