Romeo Lavia is reportedly keen to complete his move to Anfield, while Manchester United could sign a player the Reds have once loved.
With just five days until the start of the new season at Liverpool, it doesn’t look like the Reds are quite ready to get going.
After playing their final pre-season game of the summer, attention is firmly set on a trip to Chelsea on Sunday as the 2023/24 Premier League season begins.
However, Liverpool still need to work on their squad. Jurgen Klopp already knows the areas that need strengthening and efforts are being made to address these issues.
A new number six is currently a priority, although Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté could also use a little more support in the rear.

Between injuries and form issues, most of the current crop can be described as uneven.
Roméo Lavia looks like the most likely option to fill that midfield void at the moment, with the player himself looking keen on a move to Anfield.
Meanwhile, there have been suggestions that Manchester United may be interested in a player Liverpool have long had an interest in.
Here is Liverpool.com’s verdict on the market gossip surrounding the Reds today.
Romeo Lavia (Southampton)
Roméo Lavia is “very eager” to move to Liverpool according to Dutch agency HLN, while the Reds are still in talks for the Southampton midfielder.
Liverpool have now rejected three offers for the 19-year-old, with Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy reporting that a $59m (£46m/€53m) bid has been rejected, although he is not giving up the chase.
Southampton are sticking to their €64m (£50m/€58m) valuation, with discussions continuing this week.
Reporter Ben Jacobs even claimed that a fourth offer was made for the player, which came shortly after the third.
Manchester United have been linked with a move by Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni that could undermine Liverpool’s hopes of signing the French international.
According to Diario Sport, Manchester United are interested in taking the 23-year-old to Old Trafford.
Liverpool have long been linked with Tchouaméni, having lost his signing last year, while a mixed season in Madrid again this summer has linked him with a move to Anfield.
Liverpool.com says: You can’t help but think this would go down like a lead balloon if true.
Many Liverpool fans have begged the club to go all-in for Tchouaméni this summer, so it would be a big deal if he ended up at Old Trafford instead.
Fortunately, Tchouameni appears to have no interest in leaving Madrid, and Madrid appear equally reluctant to let him go.
And considering they’ve already gone big with Mason Mount, André Onana and now Rasmus Højlund, you really can’t see where they’re going to find the money for what would be another big signing.
